The Birtwhistle Coats of Arms as
depicted on the Silver Cup presented by the ‘’Gatehouse Volunteers’ to
Alexander Birtwhistle in May 1802 Note: this
appears to be another variant of the several family coats of arms, crests and
mottos which currently exist. It is the earliest version yet found carrying
the “Dolphin naiant” together with the motto “Serenus in Arduis” (“Calm in
Adversity”) |
